Satinder Chopra replaces Bob Hardage as the editor of the AAPG Explorer, Geophysical Corner

Satinder Chopra, an award-winning geoscientist who has contributed numerous papers to Geophysical Corner over the past several years, will be the column’s new editor. He replaces Bob Hardage, who has been the Geophysical Corner editor since January 2006. Hardage, a senior research scientist at the Bureau of Economic Geology in Austin, Texas, is beginning his term as president of the Society of Exploration Geophysicists. Chopra, an AAPG Distinguished Lecturer and winner of the 2010 AAPG George C. Matson Award for his paper, “Delineating Stratigraphic Features Via Cross-Plotting of Seismic Discontinuity Attributes and Their Volume Visualization,” is chief geophysicist (reservoir), at Arcis Corporation, Calgary, Canada. In the last 27 years he has worked in regular seismic processing and interactive interpretation, but has spent more time in special processing of seismic data involving seismic attributes including coherence, curvature and texture attributes, seismic inversion, AVO, VSP processing and frequency enhancement of seismic data. He has published seven books and more than 220 papers and abstracts. He is the past chief editor of the CSEG RECORDER, a past member of the SEG’s Leading Edge editorial board and the ex-chairman of the SEG Publications Committee. In addition to AAPG, he is a member of SEG, CSEG, CSPG, CHOA (Canadian Heavy Oil Association), EAGE, APEGGA (Association of Professional Engineers, Geologists and Geophysicists of Alberta) and TBPG (Texas Board of Professional Geoscientists).

Arcis Corporation announces it has successfully completed the purchase of all the outstanding shares of VGS Seismic Canada Inc.

Calgary, Alberta - August 26th, 2011:

Arcis Corporation is pleased to announce that it has successfully completed the purchase of all the outstanding shares of VGS Seismic Canada Inc.

This acquisition has materially expanded Arcis’ 3D seismic data library from approximately 6,940 to 11,856 net square kilometers (a 71% increase), and adds approximately 4,772 net kilometers of 2D seismic data for a total of 6,003 net kilometers (a 387% increase). Arcis’ President and CEO, Brad Torry, comments that “this transaction represents a significant step in Arcis’ growth and includes strategic assets that complement Arcis’ existing library”. Torry, along with Holly Elrick Sr. VP Finance & CFO, went on to say “the transaction provides improved access for our clients to high quality seismic assets combined with enhanced technical solutions. Using Arcis’ proprietary processing technologies, we are able to provide enhanced imaging solutions in new and emerging play fairways.” The purchase includes assets in North East British Columbia, Alberta and Saskatchewan that are complementary to Arcis’ existing database, reaffirming Arcis’ position as a leading provider of high resolution, modern seismic data to the Canadian exploration industry.

Arcis welcomes Luis Lugo as Geophysical Advisor – Business Development South America

Arcis is pleased to welcome Luis Lugo to our team in the role of Geophysical Advisor – Business Development South America. Luis comes to us with 29 years of combined experience in acquisition, processing, and time/depth imaging of 2D/3D land and marine seismic data. Most recently, Luis worked at Divestco as Senior Geophysical Advisor, and has served as Senior Geophysicist for companies in South America, the UK, and Canada. Luis will be responsible for regional business development and representation in support of our South American activities, and will be leading our processing and reservoir services business in the region. Arcis welcomes Mike Cardell as Senior Sales Representative - Surveys

Arcis is pleased to welcome Mike Cardell to our team in the role of Senior Sales Representative - Surveys. Mike will be responsible for a combination of sales and operational work within the Surveys group. Mike comes to us from Schlumberger-WesternGeco, where he served for 23 years in positions ranging from Crew Chief to Sales Advisor, and most recently Account Manager. He has extensive experience in multi-client surveys, operations management, data sales, and client relations. Mike holds a BA Economics from the University of Calgary. Peter Cheesbrough joined Arcis as a Human Resources Sr. Generalist. Peter holds a bachelors Degree in Economics from California State University in Northridge, as well as a graduate diploma in Human Resources from St. Lawrence College in Kingston, and is currently being certified as a professional co-active coach with CTI. Peter joins Arcis with five years of experience, three in the oil and gas service industry working for CGGVeritas. Kevan R. Hanson joins Arcis Corporation as Vice President Business Development – Eastern Hemisphere

Arcis Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Kevan R. Hanson, to Vice President Business Development – Eastern Hemisphere. In this role, Mr. Hanson will be responsible for the strategic expansion of Arcis into the Eastern Hemisphere, expanding the client base in the region and promoting Arcis’ leading Reservoir Services technologies and Processing capabilities in the region.

Mr. Hanson comes to Arcis after a successful 28 year career with Fusion Petroleum Technologies, Petroleum Geo Services (PGS), Unocal and Exploration Consultants Ltd. (ECL). He has an excellent track record of building successful businesses for both Fusion and PGS in the Middle East and North Africa. Mike Perz joins Arcis Corporation as Manager Technology & Integration

Arcis Corporation is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Mike Perz, M.Sc., P.Geoph to Manager Technology & Integration. Mike achieved his B.Sc. in Physics from University of Toronto in 1990 and his M.Sc. in Geophysics from University of British Columbia in 1993. His work career started at Pulsonic Geophysical Ltd. where he worked as a geophysical applications programmer from 1993 to 1997. Mike then joined Geo-X Systems Ltd. (now Divestco Inc.) in a similar position until 2004 at which time he was promoted to Manager, Research and Development.

Mike joined the Arcis team on April 1st, 2010 and will be involved in the continued development of Arcis' high level proprietary geophysical software. As an active member of Arcis' management team, Mike will also be involved in developing our people resources and in managing the growth and development of our global business.
